Tamecare dog leg braces give soft, adjustable support to weak, injured or ageing joints so your dog can keep walking comfortably. Choose from knee, hock and full rear-leg designs, in single or double styles, with sizes from XXS to L and reflective straps on many models.
Which leg brace does my dog need?
| Brace type | Supports | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| Knee (stifle) brace | The knee on the back leg | Knee instability, cruciate ligament injury, recovery after knee surgery |
| Hock brace | The ankle joint on the back leg | Hock weakness, sprains, dogs that knuckle over at the ankle |
| Double rear-leg brace with support bars | Both back legs | Weakness in both hind legs, arthritis, senior dogs |
| Front double-leg brace | Both front legs | Front-leg weakness or joint strain |
A brace supports the joint but does not replace a diagnosis. Ask your veterinarian which joint needs support. If your dog can no longer carry its own weight on the back legs, a dog wheelchair may be a better fit.
How to measure for a leg brace
- Find the joint: identify the knee or hock the brace will cover.
- Circumference: measure around the leg just above and just below that joint.
- Compare: check your numbers against the size chart in the product images. If your dog is between sizes, contact us before ordering.
A good fit is snug enough that the brace does not slide down, with room to slide one finger under each strap.
Dog leg brace FAQ
Can a knee brace replace surgery for a torn ACL?
Some dogs are managed with a brace and rest, and others need surgery. Only your veterinarian can decide which is right after examining your dog. A brace can also support the knee while your dog recovers from surgery.
How long should my dog wear a brace each day?
Start with short sessions of 30 to 60 minutes and build up gradually. Check the skin for rubbing or redness each time you remove it, and take the brace off at night unless your veterinarian advises otherwise.
Do I need one brace or two?
If only one leg is affected, a single brace is usually enough. Choose a double brace when both legs need support, or when the healthy leg is taking extra strain.
Can my dog wear a brace on walks?
Yes. Braces are designed for daily movement, and the reflective straps on many models help your dog stay visible on early-morning and evening walks.
